Welcome to Scouting in the Black Mountain District. Black Mountain consists of over 2,400 Scouts and 500 volunteers who share their love of Scouting and the Outdoors with the communities that they live in. The following communities are a part of Black Mountain: Rancho Bernardo, 4S Ranch, Carmel Mountain, Pensaquitos and Poway through over 80 Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews.

The District Committee is in the process of planning the next 18 months of events, so please keep checking the website for up and coming events and activities. If you are interested in getting your child enrolled in scouting or would like to volunteer, please contact our District Executive, Erica Audette, at Erica.audette@scouting.org or 619-298-6121 ext 250.

Recharter Time

Black Mountain Scouters,

For those of you who were not able to make it to the September Roundtable to hear about the Charter Renewal process I wanted to give a recap.

If your unit has not received your packet, please contact your Unit Commissioner (if you have one) or myself (if you don't).

A few questions came up at roundtable that I also wanted to repeat here.

Q: What happens if I don't get the charters completed by the deadline?
A: Any unit's show charter is not received (and processed) by the deadline will not be an official scouting unit; this means that you are not covered by insurance, cannot have rank advancement etc.

Q: What happens if someone over the age of 18 doesn't have valid YPT on Dec 31st?
A: that Adult will not be registered and must reapply as an adult again in 2015; if that person is filling a charter required position (such as Scoutmaster, Den Leader, Committee Chair etc.) the unit's charter cannot be processed until either that person's YPT is up to date or someone else fills that position.

Q: When you say "Make appointments .... " by September 31st does that mean I should have the signatures by then?
A: No, that means we would like people to make the appointments (could be made for Nov 20th for example) so that there is not last minute scrambling to get signatures on Nov 31st.

Q: Do Tiger Cub Adult Partner's need to fill out an adult application?
A: No, Tiger Cub Adult Partner's only need to fill out the bottom portion of the youth application. However, the Tiger Den Leader does need to be registered as a regular adult.

Q: What other incentives do I have to complete rechartering on time?
A: Every unit that has their completed packet in by December 1st can have one person from that unit throw a pie in the face of either Erica or myself! Must be present to win.
